There is a continuous influx of gold in large quantities now taking plaoe from North America.

It has transpired that the note which has recently been addressed to the Euro* pean Powers by the British GrOTernment suggesting that a conference should be held to consider the present state of Egyptian affairs, has elicited replies from all the Powers assenting to the principle involved, and it is understood that a meeting of European Plenipotentiaries will take place at an early date.
The trial of the suspects who were arrested on charges of complicity in the murder of Mrs Henry J. Smyth, and in the attack on Barlow Smith and Lady Henrietta Monk, near Killucan, Westmeath, on April 2nd, 1882, was concluded to-day, when the five men were sentenced to ten years' penal servitude.
