OUR MINES.
DEEP LEVEL CROSS.
The reef at the 640 ft level was broken j down to-day. It is a strong body of quartz, about 2|ft wide, and carries excellent minerals, especially in the footwall portion, though no gold was seen. Some of the stove is very similar to that obtained from the same reef at No. 5 level. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. A trial parcel from the reef in hand at No. 10 level is now being put through at the company's mill, but, as might be expected, seeing that no gold has been seen in breaking, it is not shaping for a large yield. The reef continues to look promising, however, the minerals being very favorable for gold. A contract to drive 50ft., at £1 per foot, has been let, and it is expected that within this distance a break, identical with that alongside which some gold was got in Mr Wilson's drive, will be reached. At No. 8 level, in the Vanguard crosscut, a contract to drive 30ft., at 30s per foot, has been let, and the manager expects this will take the face into more congenial country. A portion of the cross-reef is striking through the hard rook, and this is being followed. ROCKY POINT. A further breaking of the hangingwall branch of the Adelaide reef at the low level took place yesterday, and as much gold was seen as on the previous day, though the rocks were not broken up and the stone picked out. The precious metal is found chiefly in two small stringers, and on looking over the heap of quartz at the mouth of the tunnel this morning, gold could be very freely seen, especially where the stringer had split in the centre. In these pieces gold was visible over a space quite a foot square on the sides of some of the rocks, and the manager informed me it was showing in the roof for a length of 6ft, promising well for. the leading stope. The reef is still a mass of stringers, but these are continually crossing each other, gold being generally found at the junctions.
