London, April 21. General Gordon has written to Sir Samuel Baker, under date Bth insh, stating that he has provisions for five months at Khartoum, and a garrison of 500 determined men, besides 2030 rag-tag. He says that he is beseiged by the Arabs, and suggests that the plutocrats of England and America should contribute £2,000,000 for the purpose of hiring 2COO Turkish Nizams (regular troops), which should be despatched to Berber under the command of Zebhr Pasha.

London, April 21. The Hon. Evelyn Ashley, Colonial Under-Secretary, lecturing at Sandown, said it would ultimately be nenessary for the colonies to be represented in the House of Commons. Speaking on the annexation question, he said personally he favored the annexing of New Guinea by the colonies, providing they were willing to share the expense. London, April 19. The Fall Mall Gazette has an indignant article on M. Ferry's despatch, and asserts that the colonists are resolute men who will stand no nonsense, and that MY Perry's policy will raise a formidable barrier to the extension of French power h: the Pacific.
