Southern Mining.
Lyem.,—-The works at the United Alpine mine at the Lyell are being pushed on, the late fine weather having been favorable to outside work. The reef at the No. 6 level is looking well, and we hope shortly to be able to record a resumption of dividends from this, the great main stay of the Lyell district. The Croesus Company have' not as yet found dividend paying stone. The United Italy Company are likely soon to come to the front. From the Great Republic mine at Stoney Creek, there is really.-good news to hand. Tbe mine manager reports that be has picked up the reef m solid ground, showing very rich stone, similar to that previously found in tbe -broken reef on the surface. The works, of the Mokihinui, Guiding Star, Eed Golden Crown Companies, are being carried on in a regular and thorough manner, although the operations of the more advanced of these Companies are just at that stage that disheartens the more timid and . cautious shareholder. We refer to the try-. ing time of regular calls, when heavy and expensive work is beingdone, and the period of the first crushing is a little indefinite. Th<i Mokihinui Company have completed their race and paddock to the battery. The Ked Queen Company has struck the richest run of stone yet found in their mine, from their No. 2 tunnel. Further uncovering of, and driving on the Golden Crown reef, shows the permanency and value of the more northern run of the reef, while the Guiding Star Company are steadily pushing ahead their operations, so as to be ready to keep the battery at work when it is ready to begin crashing. —Buller Miner.
