It grieves me that now Mr Lionel Phillips himself is in trouble, there should be any further grievances thrown upon him. Again thanking those gentlemen who so liberally subscribed for myself and family in my great trouble." '

At a meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce yesterday, resolutions were passed urging the Government to ask Parliament for authority to assist a company to introduce and carry on sericulture and other subtropical-in-dustries.

Tee steamer Coromandel, after passing Brown's Island about three o'clock yesterday afternoon, while on her way from Auckland to Coromandel, foaled the scow Nora, bound from Cabbage Bay. The steamer had a hole stove in each side of her bow, and Captain Scott, considering it injudicious to attempt to cross the Hauraki Gulf in this condition, returned to Auckland. Considerable alarm waß caused on board by the occurrence. The Nora, which also sustained some damage, is owned by Messrs Cadman, Darrah, and others. She continued her passage to port without assistance. In consequence of this accident the Coromandel's passengers came on to the Thames by the Anne Milbank, and proceeded to their destination by her this afternoon. She will, however, return here in time this evening to leave for Auckland at the advertised time.
