IN pursuance .of Section 340 of "The Municipal Corporation Act, 1876," the following copy of a Bye-law proposed to be made by the Council of the Borough of Thames, is hereby published for general information. F. C. Dean, Town Clerk. Thames, 27th March, 1884. BYE-LAW; No. 16. Bye-law of the Council of the Borough of Thames, made by special order of the saift Council, dated the day of October, 1883, confirmed the day of , 1883, and sealed with the common seal of the said Council the day of , 1883. In pursuance of the powers vestad in them under " The Municipal Corporation Act, 1876," the Borough of Thames ordains as follows, that is to say— 1. Every person who shall.exercise or carry on the business of a hawker, pedlar, petty chapman, or any other trading person carrying to sell, or exposing for sale any goods, wares, or merchandise, within the Borough, shall be required to take out a license. 2. Every such license shall be in the form of the schedule hereto annexed, and the same shall be in force for six months from the date of the issue thereof. 3. Such license shall be issued by the Town Clerk to any person applying for the same on payment of a sum of One Pound (£1), and such application shall be in writing, and signed by any two ratepayers, and the "applicant. 4. Such license shall be shown on demand by the person to whom it has been issued, to any officer of the Police, and a copy thereof shall be deposited by him, within 24 hours of the same being issued, at the office of the officer in charge of the police within the Borough of Thames. \ 5. The license of any pedlar or hawker may at any time be cancelled by the Council of the Borough of Thames, upon proof that such pedlar or hawker is an habitual drunkard, or has been convicted of stealing, or of using abusive language. 6. This Bye-law shall not extend to prevent any person or persons from selling or offering for sale fish, fruit, or milk in the public streets or thoroughfares, or selling or exposing for sale any sorts of goods or merchandise in any; public market, or any public place set apart for the like purpose. 7. The Town Clerk shall keep a Register of the names and places of abode of all persons to whom snch licenses shall be issued, and such Register may be inspected by any person at any reasonable time upon payment of one shilling. 8. That any person or persons having a place or places of business in any locality outside the limits of the Borough of Thames who shall occupy premises within the Borough of Thames for the sale of any goods or merchandise other than fruit, milk, or fish, shall be deemed to be a Hawker on Pedlar within the meaning of this Bye-law, unlec.3 the occuation of such premises be continuous for at least 3 calendar months.
