OUR MINES.

BELCHER.

This is a new claim of 11 men's ground, situated up the Collarbone creek, near the Seymour and Queen of Tramps.; A few days ago a Mr Dixon, while prospecting, found the outcrop of a reef in the bed of the creek, it evidently having been bared by a recent fresh. In company with Messrs R. Workman and Barker the claim was pegged out, ihd operations were at once started. The reef is running about north-east and south-west, with a strong dip to the north-west.^ ; Mr Dixon first discovered it, he found colors of gp!d in the hangingwall portion, and since then the creek hat been picked up in a shoot, and the lode stripped of its covering of earth and stones. It is over two feet wide, and appears to be divided into two branches, the gold so far being found in the hangingwall one.. Very little of,this has been broken, bat the precious metal has been found as far as it has been stripped. The stone ii well mineralised, and the precious metal, which is sometimes fine and sometimes coarse, is found in the vugs, mixed with the mineral, and in the solid stone colors and dab's have been very freely seen in the quartz broken. Several nice pieces were broken in the presence of our reporter this morning. A low level is to be entered at once, from a point 240 ft. lower down the. creek, but the reef will ba picked up in a much less distance, unless it is disturbed by a slide which is visible on the road here, and the apparent strike of which is across the reef. The same lode was formerly worked higher up tha hill, but then the foofcwall portion was most wrought, while the hangingwall now appears the best. ' CAMBRIA, The winze is now 84 feet deep, leaving only 36ft to sink before reaching the point where the hew level will be put in. The reef when last taken'down showed ! colors of gold, and another breaking will take place on Monday. • The shaft is 69ft | below the 150 ft level flatsheet; the ! country continues a favorable class of sandstone, but there is as yet no sign of the Waiotahi main reef, which should be found in this vicinity. VULCAN (WAIOBONGOMAI). The late manager, Mr S. Hutchison, to-day banked 28oas of gold, the result of 64 tons of general dirt from the main reef, GOLD RETURNS. Moanataiei: —- Jonathan and party have crushed 4 tons dirt for lO|ozs gold.
