DEEP LEVEL CROSS.
The dirt from the leader at the 640 ft.. level is now being- put through at the Herald battery. There is only about three losds, but it will be kept separate, so as to see what it is worth. Gold was seen yesterday for the first time in the No. 2 reef at the inteimediate level, 70it. below No. 5. DART. Another breaking of the Alfred leader, in the eastern drive at No. 2 level, tock place last night. The lead maintains its size of about 15 inches, and is also encased in favorable country. Gold was s- >n in breaking, though not so freely as was the case last week, but the minerals are more abundant, and are of the class usually found in the proximity of a deposit of gold. For the first time since driving was commenced, antimony was found in the stone. Water is issuing from the face, which'inclines the manager to believe that the junction of the specimen leader is close at hand. The men are getting reedy for sinking the shaft by placing a draw-lift in the well-hole. The stopes above No. 3 level are looking about the same as usual, and a few pounds of picked s*one were obtained westward of the No. 2 winze last night. The dirt going through at the battery is showing up better than before.
QCTEEN OP BEAUTY. . The reef in hand at No. 10 level ras broken down this morning. It is ab :t 18 inches wide, and is a strong well-defi :.i;l lode; the quartz ig, however, of a flin'y nature, and though carrying good minerals, no gold was seen. A start has just been made in the stopes, which have hitherto been at a standstill on account of the ventilation being deficient. Only the leading stope will be carried along for the present. The quartz has a better appearance than that crushed from No. 9 level, so the manager is saving it for treatment. REUBEN PARE.
No work has been done on the reef since the flood about a fortnight ago, on acpount of the Moanat-iiri creek having entered the Dauntless level and poured down into the low level through the winze- The men have since been clearing up, but will ba able to make a fair start again on Jfonday.
