Mr Dion Boucicault has been engaged by Messrs Williamson, Garner, and Musgrove for a colonial tour.

It has transpired tbat the amalgamation of the Engineering Departments of the two Islands will effect a saving of; £50C0 per annum. Mr J. Bfockett become? En-gineer-in^Chief for the whole colony, with Mr W. N. Blair as assistant. It is rumored that Mr Mitchelson contemplates abolishing the. office of Under-Secretary of Railways. The new railway tariff is expected next year to increase the railway revenue by £150,C30.

The Governor will arrive at the Manukau on Saturday from Wellington in the Hinemba, and will be accompanied by Lady^ Jerrois, Miss Jervois, and suite. Major Cantley is expected to be a passes ger by the same steamer, and His Excellency and Major Cantley will, immediately after their arrival,, begin the work of determining on the best means of defence for this and the other ports of the North Island. They will probably proceed North first, and leave Auckland Harbor till the last. Government House has been prepared for the reception of His Excellency and party. Sir William and Lady Jervois intend to reside here until the meeting of Parliament, and arrangements for their lengthened stay have been made. X,
