NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The rise from No. 3 level to-day broke into the winze below No. 2 ; this will give good ventilation at the former level, and enable the manager to continue the eastern drive on the No. 1 reef, which has lately been at a standstill. DEEP LEVEL CEOSS. The leader being driven on at the 640 ft level shows a considerable improvement since first passed through. It is still small, but the quartz has a better appearance, and though it does not carry a defined wall, which causes it to often come off in shooting, gold has been seen every day lately. The precious metal too is more freely visible than at first, is much coarser, and is in larger blotches,- some obtained to-day being the best yet seen on the level. This is encouraging, as the leader striking across country, good gold is likely to be met with at the junction of" any lead having the ordinary strike. NEW MANUKAU. , The dirt has all been put through the stamps, but owing to the battery being stopped last night, the blanketings are not yet ground up. So far it has not shaped up to expectations, the general dirt being poor. CAMBEIA. A portion of the reef stripped in the winze below the Darwin 150 ft. level was broken down to-day. The lode is 20 inches wide, contains the same promising minerals as hitherto, and showed colors of gold. It has not yet been shot down to the point where good dabs of gold were seen in the footwall while stripping a day or two ago. KUEANUI HILL. The directors have agreed to the plan of operations propounded lately by the mine manager, and referred to in these columns, and in another column tenders are invited for driving the first section to connect the Aibion 80ft. level crosscut with the Herald shaft. The drive will be put in on a leader known as No. 6, and the distance is expected to be about 150 feet, while a similar distance will then have to be driven to intersect the other reefs. EOCKY POINT. The Adelaide reef at the General Chute level proves to be divided into three branches. In the first of these no gold was seen, but in breaking through the centre and the footwall ones yesterday colors of the precious metal were freely seen. OEIENTAL (OTUNUI). The manager reports that the contractors, having met with a hard bar, have thrown up the contract. He advises that they should be put on wages, and driving commenced on the reef last intersected* No damage has been done to the com* pany's property by the heavy rain and flood. HAUEAKI (KAEANGAHAKE). The manager had a cleaning up a day or two ago for the yield of lOOozs re« torted gold, for which about 116 tons of dirt from the Excelsior section of the mine was put through the battery. This is a much better return than the last.
