Borough Election.

PAEAWAI WAKD.

The first election of Crs for the recently added ward of the Borough took place at the house of Mr Hansen, G-rey street, yesterday. Notwithstanding Ihe fact of the smallness of the ward, and that there were not a dozen voters who took any part in the proceedings,'considerable outside interest was taken in the contest, and the result was somewhat of a surprise to most of those who appeared to know what the result would be. There were only 12 voters on the roll, and of these 10 polled ,* some plumping must have been done, as instead of 30 votes being recorded, there were only 25 shown as having been used. Shortly after six o'cclock the Beturning Officer, Mr Woodward, announced the result to be as follows:—

Brodie A. ... „. ... 4 ChappellF. 5 Hume A 6 Murdoch W. ... ... 5 McAndrew J. 5 is there were three ties, and two members to be selected from them, the Eeturning Officer gave his casting vote in favor of Messrs Murdoch and McAndrew, and declared Messrs Hume, Murdoch, and McAndrew, duly elected aa Councillors for Parawai ward.
