THE SOUDAN.
Caibo, March 2, . Intelligence has been received here from -Co). Stewart, who was despatched some weeks ago to. the Nile district, in the extreme south of Nubia, with the object of endeavouring to. pacify the native tribes who were joining the Mahdi's rah&s, -that r hitf mission has proved a failure,—all efforts to pacify the rebellious tribes having been futile.
The latest intelligence from Souakim states that Baker Pasha and Colonel Barnaby, who were wounded during the battle yesterday, are progressing favorably. ;
Osman Digua is now encamped at a distance of eight miles from Souakim, and it is expected that, a battle between the rebels and the British troops wilt shortly take place.
