Professor Brown, M.A., of the University College, Auckland, has been elected to the vacant fellowship of the New Zealand University i the other candidate having withdrawn. The Senate last night ap pointed several 'committees, and agreed that students of medicine who were registered in 1883 at Otago University should be accepted as having been registered in the New Zealand University.

HGeorge Duncan, steward of the brig Sarah Hunt, was arrested on the arrival

of the Wairarapa, from Lyttelton, as a stowaway. He said he came to Wellingto try and see the American Consul, as he had serious charges to prefer against the cantain of the Sarah Hunt. He was fined £5.
