Licensing Election.
NOETH WAED.
The polling for this district took, place yesterday,: aiid extitrd" eonsidariible: interest. Prom the time the poll opened until it closed very little doubt seemr:i to exist that the general nom' jatiors, as against tbo-e made by the Gc .1 Templar party, would show successfully in the declaration of the result. About halfpast siy. o'clock the lie(urning officer, Mr Dean, declared tbe vollin? to have be;in as follows :-T. H. Crawford, 78 ; J". Wil;;on, 77; W. Fricker, 72; % T. Wildman, 67; W. Carpenter, 61; \J. G. Vivian, 42; D. Miller, 37; Eev. T. Adams, 35; Rev. C. E. Barley, 34 The names of Mr H. Newton and Mr M. C. Hickey were withdrawn. Thus it will be seen that the general public resolved to adopt their own views on the matter; irrespective of the various dictations made to them by two parties. An analysis of the constitution of (he committee will shew that five moderate men, well known and respected, have been placed in the responsible, positions which were placed in the hands of the people to fill. ■■■ • ■ ; ■
