DUNEDIN.
Yesterday.
An enquiry was held at Port Chalmers this morning into the collision between the Wairarapa and Adelaide at Melbourne. The evidence of Capt. Ohatfield, the chief officer, and third engineer, and a passenger was taken* These all stated that there was no sign of racing. The quarter master of the Wairarapa, who was also examined, said he thought the Adelaide intended to drive the Wairarapa,. over to the bank. The inquiry stands adjourned for the evidence of Capt. Cameron, the Union Company's marine superintendent. Some other passengers by the Wairarapa give an altogether different account of the collision affair to that already wired. They assert that there undoubtedly was a race, and that the Wairarapa waited below Williamstown for the Adelaide to come up to her. It was fully known oh board that a race was intended.
