OUR MINES.

DEEP LEVEL CROSS.

Gold at the 640-feet Level.

General satisfaction was expressed about town to-day on the receipt of tho intelligence that the leader in which gold was found some weeks back in the rise above the 640-feet level south crosscut had been cut on the level, and gold seen in the stone. The crosscut in which the leader was touched this morning was started on the shaft side of the rise, and after being put in about 15 feet, what is supposed to be the hangingwall branch of the Imperial No. 2 lode was touched on the wall. This was followed in, though cot all broken down, and, at a distance of 27 feet from the main crosscut, the footwall of the leader was come upon. Up to thi3 afternoon the manager had only poked one small hole into it; here the quartz was found to be 6 inches wide, and some good stroDg colors of gold were seen in the stone, which is white in nature, and does not carry much miueral. The sandstone is cf an excellent class. The men are now stripping the leader, on which driving south will at once be commenced. At the point of intersection the backs are about 50ft in height to the Imperial boundary, but they will increase as the drive advanres southward. The discovery is of great importance to the field, as proving still more conclusively the existence of gold at the Jow levels, and we hope it may lead to rich results. There is no change to report in the other" workings. Cleaning up and retorting for the month takes place on Saturday.

The drive at No. 21evel"is now close to the winze from No. 1 on the Bed Queen leader, but the air being too light for the men to work, the manager is rigging a windlass at the top of the winze, and in* tends to break through from the bottom. EEUBEN PARR. In driving on the reef in which gold . was found the manager has come across another break, dipping towards the first one. The reef is two feet wide, but is not so well defined. Colors of gold were seen in breaking it this morning. ALBURNIA. In driving on Hatter's reef at the low level, the country is good, but the lode is rather split up at present. The manager expects to meet with the junction of another reef in continuing this drive. . Since the rise holed through to the surface level, the air has been good. ■NEW MANUKAU. Tbe sixth stope on the small leader above the Golden Crown 100 ft. level ha?« ing advanced to the hangingwall branch of No. 2 reef; the manager yesterday afternoon broke down tho latter. About four pounds of picked stone were secured, and gold seen through tho general dirt. The manager is now breaking further into the reef, and another stope has also been started on tho small leader.
