This day,
Maguire's tender of £36,100^ for the erection of the Victoria Arcade, in Queen street, has been accepted ; this added to the cost of the foundation, makes the cost of the building £40,000. The Herald's Tauranga correspondent telegraphed that Major Swindley has sent in his resignation as. Inspector of the Armed Constabulary, and has intimated his intention to contest the Tauranga seat. .
Auckland won the interprovincial lawn tennis match against Wellington, getting two sets out of three. Fell and Ridings represented Auckland, and Fitzgerald and Zebble did battle for Wellington. Mr Sheehan has so far recovered from his recent indisposition,-that he is able to get about. It is expected that upwards of 200 men from all parts of the colony will enter for the Riflo Association firing.
