At Leeston Mr Wakefield polled 182, McLachlan 183; at Brookside, Wakefield 36, McLachlan 27; at Southbridge, Wakefield 157, McLachlan 85; at Dunsandel, Wakefield 104, McLachlan 21. The totals were, for Wakefield 479, McLachlan 316. The total of votes polled at the last election was 618. The greatest excitement prevailed.
