This day. It is said that Mr J. Gr. Lennex intends to stand for Waitemata against Mr Hurst, and that Mr Adam Porter means to run for Eden against Mr Joseph Tole. In the kauri gum market there has been a very fair amount of business transacted. The demand for superior sorts is well maintained, although do alteration in the prices is reported; inferior sorts are somewhat neglected. Sir George Grey has expressed an opinion adverse to Tawhiao's mission to England and his proceedings, and his opinion, has. been communicated to Tawhiao. Out of twenty-five ports named in tl'e Customs' returns there is a falling off is the revenue of all but three, one of the-'e three being Tauranga. The jury at the inquest on the Mount Eden fire has returned an open verdict, but commented on the pecular manner in which Jones and his wife, in whose house the fire originated, gave their evidence.
