A JOVIAL MARQUIS.

His lordship then gave the lad half-a-crown, and, getting a piece of cord, fastended the barrow securely to the back of the vehicle, and calmly awaited events. Presently the doctor came out, rewarded the boy, got ia, "Rave his horse a flip cf the whip, and started off down Piccadilly. It was in the days when Macadam was young, and the road was lens level tu'an it is no-.*, so a. every bound oveYtbe highway out flew a score or two of tipples. .' ' Boys hurrahed, scrambled, and fought for the pippins that strewed the ground; and a mob followed behind yelling out, "Keep the ball rolling, old man!" while the doctor—in blissful ignorance of the-commotion his progress caused— drove on steadily. He certainly looked back, but the barrow was tied too closely to hU own shandry for him to see it," and it wis not - until the. apple-cart cast a wheel that he ascertained what all the row had/been about.
