BOROUGH FINANCE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib, —I am surprised to see that both yourself and your contemporary have fallen into the error of stating the expenses for salaries to the Borough officials to be about £1800. Now I have not examined the Borough books, but surely there must be some mistake in such a statement. The persons in receipt of " salaries " are, I take it, four in number, viz., the Town Clerk, the Collector, the Relieving Officer, and the Messenger, and their united salaries cannot tot up to much more than £700, or not nearly half the amount stated. I am certainly of opinion a small saving can be effected by amalgamating offices, &c, but surely, Sir, it would be advisable to stick to facts when writing pja the subject.—l mta, &c, Batepayms.

[Our correspondent is in error,; we hare never stated that the expenditure on salaries or officials in the Borough, employ amounted to £1800 per annum. >We are ' inclined to think that if "Ratepayer" will go over "the ground igain, he will discover .that our columas never.contained any \taeh Bp^puKiafonMtion.'-*-Ed.
