NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

The manager had the amalgam from the specimens and the general dirt re« tor ted separately on Saturday, and it was found that the average of the general stuff was over 2Jozs per load, while the return from 15cwt specimens was more than l|ozs to the pound. The leader in the winze below No. 5 level was again broken on Saturday, and a little gold was seen. The manager reported on Saturday as follows :—" For the past month 628 loads of quartz and 15cwt of specimens, have been crushed for the splendid yield of 38260zs of retorted gold. Of this yield 16280zs canse from the general dirt, the remainder, 21980z5, came from the specimens. The melting reduced the total weight to 37890zs 6dwts. The winze on No. 2 lead, below No. 5 level, is down 46ft; the soft head which carried down on the footwall has now crossed over to the hangingwall. The lead since passing through this head has become much larger, but is not quite so compact as it was, and is not showing so much gold. The drive on this lead going east has been partly at a standstill, owing to bad air. The same number of stopes have been carried on in this section, the lead in most of whinh is looking much better, and shows gold more freely. The south crosscut on the break at this level is in about 90ft, and the same favorable class of country continues. There is now only a small portion of the No.. 2 lead to be taken out in No. 2y sec» | tion west; some of the men working here have been removed to the stopes on the same load above No. 4 level. The No. 1 reef in the winze at No. 4 level maintains its size and continues to show gold. The stopes on this reef are still improving, and some good picked stone have been obtained during the week. I have commenced a leading stope westward on this reef at No. 3 level for the purpose of ven~ tilating the drive, and effecting communication with the stopes westward of the break, which are now nearly up to this level. Since the Beep Level Cross holed through with their winze to the (14.0 ft. level the air,;with us has been Very bad. Yesterday afternoon the gas was so strong that it was impossible for the men to work below. lat once started the furnace and turned water down our shaft, which succeeded in cleaning the mine of gas, and enabled, th^ night shift to resume work.—G. S. Clabk." MOANATAIttI.

The manager reported on Saturday :— " No. 9 stopes, above 132 ft. level, west e^.d, have yielded 551bs. of picked atone since my last. The foqtwEjU pontioa of reef, and which, pKoduced the stone, will average 6, inches in width. The gold has been found in pockets for a distance of 30ft. in length. The stopes this end are from 25ft to 30ft above the 182 ft level, Stoping is also in progress abou.t^Ofteastwatd

from the poiut referred to above. Here we have a strong body of likt-ly-looking quartz, some of which will be tested next week. Our other workings are without change to report. We retorted to-day and obtained 122-|ozs of gold from 60 tons, of general stuff and 1401bs of picked stone v. It will take mott of next week to get all the tribute parcels through.—J. G. Vivian." QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The drive from the winze on the reef at No. 9 level being nearly up to the slide, and the quartz not showing more gold, the manager has discontinued work here, and has started to sink the winze through to No. 10 level. The country in the Vanguard crosscut at No. 8 level is a little' tighter. KAEANGAHAKE. ( Most of the claims on the Hill are about to resume work, as the Mining Inspector has notified those not working that he will cause forfeit to be made. The Dubbo yesterday arranged to start with four men ; they have 170 feet of driving in, and about 40 tons of staff stacked, but until the County track is finished they cannot get it to the battery. The Hauraki is going steadily along, and the works at the battery and fluming are in progress. The Sir Walter Scott claim again reports good gold found on Wed* nesday.—Tribune.
