AN EPISODE IN THE LIFE OF FARMER CHITTY.
To the city Soon elated, .Farmer Chitty, And inflated, Plain, but gritty, Chitty waited Came one day. For the deal; And he wandered, When some aces And he pondered, Showed their faces— On his way. Two hard cases . Made him squeal. Thus while gazing At amazing In the city Sights., and praising Stood the gritty All he saw; Farmer Chitty He was taken— . « ' Cursing all. Hand was shaken Not a penny By mistaken Of the many Mr Shaw. Had he, any More, to call. Who, to right it, And requite it Home returning Him invited Through the'burning- ' To a " smile;" Sand, and learning ' And the farmer How to tramp. To the former Spouse she took him Grew a warmer And she shook him, • Friend the while. Grit forsook him. And she wouldn't believe a blamed word he said , in explanation. ' '
