■ : This day. Presbyterian Syaod. The principal business transacted by the Presbyterian Synod yesterday was a discussion on a report from a committee on the Union recommending that immediate steps be taken to effect a union with the Northern church. After a spirited debate a motion by Professor Salmond affirming that the union should be effected without delay was carried by 30 to 24. The National, Insurance Co. had an entire line of £10,000 on the steamer Lismore, which was wrecked at the entrance to the Kedmond river, New South Wales, but reinsured £9,500, of which the South British, United, Union, and Colonial bad each £500. The rest was among Australian and foreign offices. His Excellency the Governor proceeded to the Lakes this morning. The Tarawera has sailed for the Sound on ao excursion with 84 passengers.
