OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. One of the stopes west of the break, above No. 5 level, produced 15Olbs specimens this afternoon, making the quantity on hand over lO^cwt. The leader in the winze below No. 5 level also yielded the encouraging result of 121bs specimens when broken this afternoon. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. A haul of 501 bs of specimens was secured this morning from the stopes on the footwall leader of No. 2 reef above No. 5 level. Driving has been started seaward on the hanging wall branch of the crossreef at the level. The reef was heaved into the hanging wall where work was started. It has been picked up, but no quartz has been broken. The men in the rise and winze can hear each other working quite plainly, and expect to hole through towards the end of the week. DART. In addition to the lolbs stone mentioned in our issue of last night as having been secured from the western drive on No. 2 reef at No. 3 level, the manager in the afternoon secured a hundredweight of specimens and picked stone from the same reef in the fourth stope east of No. 2 winze. This is no doubt from the continuation of the run of cold worked in the lower stopes. The general dirt continues to shape well, so the return for the month will be a good one. Another breaking took place to-day in the fourth stope, and 501bs. of specimens were secured, gold being left showing. This makes the total quantity of specimens and picked stone on hand for the month so far about 2 cwt. CALEDONIAN. The manager reported yesterday:— " The contractors, No. 2 level crosscut, have made good headway this last fortnight ; they have driven 30 feet through good country. The crosscut, is now in 275 feet; about 55 feet more to reach the winze, and another 20 or 30 feet should cut the Red Queen leader, No. 1 level: The stopes on Red Queen leader and right and left hand branches from same, are now up 59ft from back of No. 1 level. The 10th stope being well away from rise, I am now rising for the 11th stope on the junction of the three leaders. This will give us four new stopes, one on each leader. The stopes now in progress are looking much the same as usual; some of the leaders are very small, but at the junctions they make more quartz and some nice gold. I got lOlbs of picked stone last week from the different leaders. The Red Queen leader appears to be the main leader; the others all branch from it, sometimes making a half-circle and functioning into it again. I expect to start crushing some time this month; I have now in the hoppers 25 to 30 loads of quartz. Should like to strike the leader at No. 2 level before commencing, as might then be able to keen gpjng. —T, B. Hicks," " f'
