OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPEBIAL,
The following report was forwarded yesterday by the manager:—" Since re suming work in the mine 70 loads of quartz hare been reduced at the batteries for the yield of 3500z5. of amalgam. The No. 2 lead, in the stopes westward of the shaft, above No. 5 level, continues to look well, having produced 3 cwt of specimens and picked stone since Wednesday. In No. 1 section there is still 9 feet of solid ground to work up to the level, and in No. 2 section 10 feet in height remains from the back of the highest stope. In .the eastern drive, at No. 5 level, the lead has been small for the last 10 or 15 feet, but is now commencing to make again. A good deal of water has made its appearance here lately, evidently the drainage from that dammed back at No. 4 level. The stopes here are now being more fully manned ; good crushing dirt is being obtained, although, in places, the lead is very small. A commencement was made to-day to sink a winze below No. 5 level immediately on the eastern side of the crosscut. No. 1 reef, No. 4 level: Very little work has been done here during the past week, as a good many of the men have not returned from their holiday keeping. Driving west on this reef at No 3 level will be suspended for a time until the winze is through from No. 2 level. The contractors have commenced rising to meet the winze.—G. S. Gla.uk:."
KUROUI HILL
The drive on No. 9 reef has been suspended for the present, till the stopea have been carried through the break met with some time back, and have determined the direction of the vertical hangingwall leader on the eastern side. - This is being done to find out which branch is the best to drive upon. Some nice'dabs of gold were seen in the stopes to day, but the reef is not of large size. Having some doubt as to whether the leader in hand is identical with the one worked successfully some years ago by the Hazelbank tributers, the manager yesterday examined the old workings, which he found well ventilated. The workings in hand appeared to be on the hanging wall side of the old ones, so a survey will be made to-morrow to settle the question. Should the leaders not prove identical, the manager Jwill only have to put in a short crosscut to pick up the Hazelbank lead at the tunnel level, above which there will be a good block on it.
DARWIN,
The manager on Saturday evening stopped the western drire at the 150 feet level, and commenced to crosscut, at a point 15 feet seaward of the chamber, to pick up the leader cut in the Well hole. The country is a good firm sandstone, but the leader should be to hand towards the end of the week, as the distance to drive is short.
C'AMBKIA.
The eastern drive on the Darwin reef 18 in orer 30 feet past the boundary, in excellent country, both for gold, and malt* ing progress. The leader, however, continues small and disturbed, but more water is issuing from the face.
