Pickess, who had for a number of years been, employed as messenger in the City Surveyor's Office, committed suicide by hanging himself. Ho was aged 64, and had been I depressed for some time. Attempted Suicide., A man named Eoberfc Muir attempted to commit suicide by throwing himself into the harbour, but he was rescued by some young men. "Waipapa Lighthouse Finished. The Secretary of Customs has favoured us with the the following telegram, received from Mr Wilson, of the Marine Department, announcing the., successful opening of the lighthouse on Waipawa Point: ~"lnvercargill, January 2, — Lighted up last night; everything right."
