KAUAERANGA BOYS' SCHOOL.
The breaking up for the holiday^ took; place this afternoon at three o'clock. The yonnger scholars were put through some exercises, and also sang and gave a few recitations. The usual bag of cakes, lollies, <fee, was then given to euch of the scholars present, and they were dismiss scl. To-night parents end friends are, invited: to meet at the school about seven o'clock, when the prizes (which it may be mentionecl are for drawing or special subjects only) and the attendance certificates will be presented. There will also be a few speeches, and an extravaganza will be acted by the elder scholars, on a miniature stage fitted up for the occasion, and which is well arranged with every convenience. The room has been very tastefully decorated with jflowers, ferns, •fee.
There is a large amount of work, chiefly drawing and needlework, on exhibition, and the drawings are well worth an inspection, showing considerable talent as well as industry. In class 6, Sidney Waite, Ernest Eates, and Malcolm Fleming, who each have a number ef drawings, come first, J. Farquhar deserving hon. mention. Four sepia drawings by Amy Phillips are also very good. In the other classes the following are worthy of notice, E. Waite (sth) especially :— sth: E. Waite, W, Arscott, H. Airey; 4th : A. Percy, F. Gibbons ; 3rd : Edith Fugill, F. Whitehead, A. Kirkham, G. Driver. These, however, it may truly be said, are only a trifle above many others. W. Hammond and J.. Me Andrew, archi tectural designs, and Blakely and Me* Laren, drawings of steam engines, deserve mention. In drawings from models, E." Waite, Isabella Laurie, and George Buckland excel the others. Needlework: The following are the best samples i—oth Class: Agnes Laurie,? Margaret Lamb; 4th, Ella and Lucy Smith, Laura Osborq|i Clara Gerring, M. Hamilton; 3rd: ESse Collins, Aurora Flpyd; 2nd: Maria Bridson.
