LABOUR REPORT.
R. M. Hoighton and Co., 177, Qieen street Auckland, report as follows: —The near* approach of tha Christmas Holidays has caused some difficulty in supplying the demand for women servants ; men servants are still plentiful, but slow in taking country situation!. Engagements during the week hare been brisk; and are as follows : Farm hands, 15s to 255; station hands, 10a to 20j ; milkers 13s to 23a ; grooms and gardeners, 20j to 30a j labourer*, 6s to 8s per day; carpenters, 6s to I2s per day ; grocers, 20s to 40sand found; butchers, 35s to 50j j drapers, 40s to 60s; storeman, 35s to 40s; married couples, £52 to £78 ; black- ' smiths, 8s to 12s; youths and boys, 10a to: 15s. Other engagements at current wages. Women servants, and housekeepers, £35 to £52; general servants, 10s to 15s; housemaids, 10s to 12s j cooks, 153 to 255; nurses, 20s to 30s ; nurse-girls, 5s to 83 ; improvers and dressmakers, 10; barmaids, 20s to 30s.
