OUR MINES.
NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL.
The cleaning up this morning yielded the splendid return of 49100z5. amalgam from between Hand 12 cwt of specimens and 386 loads of general dirt, the result of a fortnight's work. The yield of re< tortedgold was the excellent one of 19370z3 which was reduced to 19170z5. on melting. Of this the specimens yielded' bj far the greatest proportion, the average being more than an ounce per pound. The re« turn from the general dirt was about 450 ozs. gold, nearly an ounce and a quarter per load. • MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The contractors are now down between 90 and 100 feet with the shaft, and are making better progress than has been the case lately. The ground is still unfavourable for gold, but is changing for the better, and is softer than it has been for some weeks. LONDON. The tender of Graham and party, at Iss • 6d per foot, was accepted this afternoon for driving the crosscut at No. 4 level from No. 2 to No. 1 reef, a distance of 100 feet. The other tenders were A. Eowej 193 6d j and E. Trembath, £1 Is. Work will be commenced on Monday morning. COLIBAN. The proprietors of the above claim hare just completed a crushing of 20 loads of general dirt, and a parcel of specimens, for the excellent return of 2700zs gold. The quartz was obtained close to the boundary of the claim, next to the Alburnui Company, and augurs well for that company when their low lev.el is sufficiently advanced to work that portion of their ground. The crushing took place at the Moanatairi mill. : DAET. A breaking down of No. 2 reef in the third stcpa above No. 3 level took, place yesterday, and a few pounds of good picked stone were bagged. The reef has been taken down above where the first hundred' weight of specimens were secured, but ifc will not be broken over wher<3 the second haul came from till Monday. Gold is seen freely in the leading stope. The specimens are now being treated at the battery, and are shaping for a good return. MAGNOLIA. The manager is now taking out a trial crushing of five loads from the Gibraltar reef at the low level, at a point in the Excelsior section between the crosscut and the drive recently put in under the Eobin Hood workings. The reef is.sk feet wide, and looking well for gold. None has been seen, but the quartz is of a class which would hide the precious metal, and the manager hopes to get a return of lOdwts per load, which would pay. He also intends to take trial lots from other portions of the reef shortly. YOUNG NEW ZEALAND (WAITEKAUEI). Mr Ealph to-day brought down 88ozs gold, the produce of a crushing of 2 loads for Pocock and party, tributers. It was taken from a small leader an inch wide, but another leader 8 inches wide, and also carrying specimens, is showing in the drive, and will junction in a few feet. EAEANGAHAKE AND WAIHI. Operations have been commenced at Karangahake for the restoration of the fluming and other works destroyed by the late flood, and the manager of the Hauraki mine is again at work with a full force in the mine.—The battery of the Martha Extended- Co., Waihi, is in full work, and the mine also. The stuff being taken ont is looking better than usual. The battery cleans up next Friday, and the yield is expected to be about 300ozs.
