FLIES, CURRENTS, AND THINGS.

The Fortrose ' qqrrespondenfc of the Daily Times tells the following story : — "Some young men launched a boat 'about midday on Sunday last, and pulled across the river to the sandspit, when two of them divested themselves of their clothing for the purpose of taking a bath. They placed their apparel, including watches money and trinkets in the boat which they pushed off from the shore to deep water. Finding the current strong they had to U3e some energy to return to the spit, ans great was their dismay when upon landing they observed the boat with its paygo quietly gliding over the bar to embrace the bosom of the grand Pacific, and bravely weathered the breakers under the circumstances. The two poor fellows werein great distress, and their frantic gesticulations being observed from the township, a boat pulled by willing hands soon crossed, when it was found that if not relieved the poor fellows would shortly have been fit subjects for an asylum, in consequence of tha sandfles, . which are somewhat numerous, having discovered their defenceless condition, and commenced hold-, ing a jubilee, seemingly e?uUing in the frantieand useless efforts of their victims to dislodge them. Other garments; were. soon supplied to them, and another boat was launched and manned. Safely cross* ing the bar, it pursued the runaway, which was overtaken some distance from land and brought safely back, greatly to the joy of the sufferers,"
