TRUTH OUT OF ERROR.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sic,—l have noticed a controversy in your impartial journal as to whether or not Truth proceeds out of Error? " What do you think " tries to demonstrate that error is the medium through which truth can be reached. If this be so, error must be a good thing. J. Ho?n refuses to accept this position, and gives good sound reasons why not; "Mutual Critic" clearly proves ■" What do you think " to be altogether? wrong, and retires from the field; but " What do you Think "will not confess himself beaten, but blindly slashes away: he raises new issues, and then beheads the images set up by himself. The. first portion of his. latest effort to exalt Error is not worthy of. notice ; all that nonsense about " Auld Clootie," " hooty-te»hoo," " Get thee behind me Satan," &c, is not convincing argument in favor of any theory, but rather tends the other way. Ho simply resorts to the usual shifts of persona who are unable to draw logical conclusions from true premises. Truth out of error—what an anomaly ! Good fruit from an evil tree. Sir, it is bad enough when error is presented to man to swallow under the prey tence of being truth, but when we are asked to accept gross darkness as the royal way to light, it is just a little too much for some to believe. " What do you think " has not dealt fairly with the nuts given him to crack, inasmuch as by a little jugglery he has changed the nuts which he could not break for some of his own, and then proceeds to topple over his own castle. My friend, take away what you have aided and j crack it if you can. What a doctrine to j proclaim !—"Errorisnotman'sstumblinjj, but his greatard exorable educator." .If this be so, then hurrah for ignorance! The more error the greater education Fill your school with error and watch for the crop of truth!!l—Lam, &c, On Lookeb.
