NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
Cleaning up this morning produced 42200zs of amalgam, which, on retorting, gate the excellent yield of 16130zs of gold, which will be smelted on Monday.. The amount of general dirt crushed was about 900 loads, the exact quantity not haying been made up. This was taken chiefly from the stopes and drives on No. 1 reef at Nos. 3 and 4 levels, and shaped for an average return of a little less than an ounce per load. The specimens and picked stone, Bcwt. in all, averaged about 16dwts per pound, the last cwt. obtained yielding quite an ounce per pound. In ,the drive east on No. 2 reef at No. 5 level, the quartz is still disturbed, though showing gold at each breaking. A little gold was also seen to-day in the leading stope on No. 1 reef at No. 4 level, on the eastern side of No. 2 break, or above the Hand of Friendship winze. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. The retorting for the month, which took place at the Herald mill this morning, produced the good return of 4020zs gold, which was reduced to 400ozg on being melted. This is the product of 275 loads of general dirt and 2001bs of picked stone and specimens, and is a very satis* factory return, as it will more than repay the cost of getting it out. The general dirt has averaged over loz per load, exclusive of specimens, which proves the payableuess of the block opened up at No. 5 level on the oross-reef, from which the bulk of the crushing stuff has been obtained. THAMES GOLDEN CROWN. The monthly cleaning up to-day gave the good payable return of 2120zs 16dwts melted gold from 160 tons of general dirt. Of this 80 tons were obtained from Nos. 1 and 2 shaft leaders and the small leaders in the Cure crosscut at the 100 ft. level. The remainder was broken out of the surface workings oh the spur near the brace. HA.ND OF FRIENDSHIP. The crosscut at No. 5 level still con-, tinuing in hard ground, work ha 3 been temporarily suspended, and the men started to continue the eastern drive on No. 1 reef at No. 4 level. They have not yet broken the reef down here yet. The winze is in progress as usual. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The contractors have only sunk 6ft this vreek, making the total depth 76ft The delay was caused by a large boulder slipping off a clay head into the shaft below the portion timbered. This has now been removed, and sinking is again in full swing. NEW COLUMBIA. A trial parcel of eight loads from the reef at the intermediate level yielding only 4ozs Bdwts gold, the manager has stopped work, and has recommended the directors to continue the eastern drive at the adit level to the Nil Desperandum shaft, a distance of 180 ft, to see if the gold got there in the early days continues down. OWHAROA AND WAI HI. The Smile of Fortune G.M.Co., in the former district, has cut another leader in the new crosscut, a few feej; from the one inters cted by Mr Wilcox. It prospects for a payable yield.—At Waihi 30 head of stamps are runing on the Martha Extended dirt, and the fortnight's return of amalgam was 2340z5, which will gire a remunerative return when retorted.
