OUR MINES.

NEW PBINCE IMPERIAL. A.survey was, made yesterday by, JMr" Bayldon of the workings at No. 4 level, and he finds that the eastern drive on No. 1 reef is just up to the Hand of Friendship boundary. The Imperial ground, however, lengthens upward. The northern drive on the same reef by the Deep Level Cross at No. 5 level has also reached the boundary, so it is not improbable that the Imperial will start work here shortly. No. 5 level:. la the eastern drive the No. 2 reef is still: rather disturbed by soft clay seams crossing the country. Four stopes are in progress west of the winzes The llth is fast approaching the Cross boundary ; here the reef is of good size, and shows colors of gold. The 12th is close to the" break, the reef being about a foot wide, and show* ing colors of the precious metal. Between here and the llth stope a stope has been started on the western side of the break, and at the time of my visit today thereof was stripped for a length of 15ft, and will probably be taken down either to-night or to-morrow. The 13th stope is only in about 10ft from the winze, the reef being of large size. At No. 4 level the stopes on No. 1 reef are looking pretty well, good colors and dabs being seen in a footwall leader near the winze. No. 3 level: In the eastern drive on No. 1 reef, there is a large body of quartz showing, though at present it is somewhat split up. Westward the reef has been small, but is opening out again. Gold is seen in both ends. No. 2 level; The contractors for

the winze are makiug good progress, having sunk 12ft this Wt>ek. A small portion of the footwall of the reef has come out with the shots. The quartz is of promising appearance, and carries ex« cellent minerals. ' DEEP LEVEL CKO3S. A survey having been made of the WO!kings, it is found that the northern drive on the crossreef has reached the | Imperial boundary. The winze to connect with the G4oft. level is down 114 feet, and the men will this evening start rising frpjn the latter level, Mr Bayldon having pointed out the spot at which to com* mence, about 50ft back from face of cross* cut. Communication should be effected in 4 weeks. Seven stopes are in progress on the crossreef, fire of these being on. I the footwall branch. The dirt from all these is payable. A start has been made to drive back on the hangingwall branch, from the junction in the second stope, to connect with the winze sunk on this iode from No. 4 level, and the men will in a day or two commence driving from, the winze for the same purpose. One stop£, is in hand on the footwall branch oiu!S*> 2reef; good dirt comes to hand from here, a few pounds of specimens also being bagged . nearly every breaking down. The specimens on hand, 2001bs, • were treated to-day, and retorting takes place on Friday. DAET. The No. 2 reef was broken down in the western drive at No, 3 level this morning when colors and dabs of gold were seen. The reef has become somewhat split,; and a break has crossed the drive. ;

HAND OF FRIENDSHIP. ; The winze on No. 1 reef at No 4 level is down about 12ft, and is in favorable cauntry. The reef has become smaller, being a foot or 15 inches wide in the bottom, but is carrying' good minerals. No gold haa been seen yet.. Ai depth of 25ft will carry it out of the Imperial ground. The face of the Imperial eastern drive at this level has reached the boundary. At No. 5 level the crosscut is still in very hard ground, but a little water is ' coming out of the face, so a change may be at hand.
