WAIORONGOMAI RETURNS.
An interim retorting for the New Find and Premier mines took place on Saturday at the TeAroha battery, and the yields of gold, though not quite so rich as was predicted when the battery started; show the reefs as far as tested are highly remunerative. The amount of amalgam retorted by the New Find was. 16670z5, and gave 3210zs gold, or a little under a fifth. This is the return from about fifteen days'crushing, during which time 150 tons would be treated, the dirt - thus yielding the good average of over 1 2ozs- per ton. The Premier retorted 13610zs amalgam for 190ozs gold, a pro* portion of- less than a sixth. This is fronts slightly over twelve days' crushing (ssy 140 tons quartz), and is an average of more than l^ozs to the ton, which,-con* sidering the size of the reef, cannot be regarded as other than satisfactory. The amalgam returns for Saturday were : —Premier, 1460zs ; New Find, 148ozs; Colonist, 60ozs ; Werahiko, 63ozs.
