Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society.

ANNUAL FLO WEE SHOW.

The- Annual Show of flowers, vegetables, &c, in connection with the Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society, was opened at three o'clock this afternoon in the Academy of Music, Brown street, there being a very fair attendance of visitors, and it will be continued this evening, when the doors will be opened at 7 o'clock. The Naval Artillery Band has promised to play some selections, and as the charge of admission is small, Is per head, there will no doubt be a large attendance. Not withstanding the bad weather experienced lately, the show of flowers is quite equal to last year, and in some departments better. The children's bouquets, 29 in number, deserve special mention, as also do the bouquets of native flowers, and the collections of ferns, while the cactus exhibited by Mrs Erwin, though not very rare, is a mass of blossom. In the vegetable department, the exhibi's are not so numerous, or hardly so good, as usual, but the late season will no doubt account for this. The gooseberries, lemons, and loquats are fine specimens of what the Thames district can produce, the lemons especially. There are also three fair-sized oranges exhibited, grown by Mr W. H. Smith at his farm, Waiomo. The potatoes, cauliflowers, and onions are good, but the cucumbers are not up to the usual standard. A fine sample of pure Langshan eggs are on view. The total number of exhibits is 265, sent in by 137 persons. The following is the PRIZE LIST.
