NELSON.
This day.
On Saturday afternoon a girl carrying a baby was knocked down by a passing vehicle, whilst crossing a road; the infant, a child of Mr Hurley, was kicked by the horse, and has since died. The Champion Copper Co., which recently Bent 20 tons to Newcastle, have received the following cable:'—"Outturn 38| per cent., and sold at 123 per unit." It is calculated that the shipment realised £2B per ton,' which is considered very; satisfactory. The cross cut is now through the Doctor's lode, which though only about two feet wide on the surface; is found to be l§ft thick at this depth, The manager estimates the Doctor's lode to be worth £150 per fathom, Sample*
of drilling, which appear to be half native copper, are to be sent for analysis. The highly encouraging reports are causing excitement here.
