Makara Gold.
[Pbb Pbess Association.]
Wellington, This day.
Dr. Hector's report on the Makara gold goes distinctly in favor of Mr Walker's contention, that the cake of gold, exhibited as the result of the recent crushing at the Thames, did not come from Makara. The value of the gold .taken from. the.Makara claim, at. the, re*_. cent testing by experts, is £3 Us lid per ounce, while that which was obtained from the crushing at the Thames is worth only £2 13s lid. From an analyw-Dr.. Hector made, the samples recently ob« tamed at Makara, contain 9 per cent, of silver, but the sample chipped from the bar which wa3 obtained from the crushing .; at the Thames contains 32 per cent., which is the proportion that usually characterises Thames'gold.
