LABOUR REPORT.

R. M. Heightok and Co., Labour Agents, 177, Queen street, report; —The Agricultural Association's Exhibition, and the holiday in commemoration of the Prince of Wales Birthday, may in some measure account for the slight depression in the labor market. There is a fair call from country employers with a liberal figure for wages. Women servants — there is a brisk call for good generals and cooks i housemaids, nursegirls, and barmaids, we can supply plentifully; women servants hesitate about country places, probably preferring the city until after Christmas; some good engagements may, however, be made. Business done during the week is as under:— Couples £60 to £85, dairymen £75 to £100, station hands £40 to £50, ploughmen £50 to £65, general farm hands 15s io 255, laborers 6s to 9s, carpenters 8s to 10s, bricklayers 10s to lis, grooms 20s. to 255, gardeners £50 to £100, drapers 40s to 60s, shop hands 15s to 30s, grocers 20s to 40s, general servants 8s to 15s, waiters 20 to 255, housekeepers £65 to £80, clerks £40 to £100, housemaids 10s to 12s; mechanics can be easily provided for, carpenters well supplied, and painters plentiful. Employers will do well by forwarding us their orders early, and thus take the opportunity of having their wants supplied without delay.
