The Pacific Committee have reported, it is believed, that they recommend that the High Commissioner should have power to try natives suspected of outrage on British subjects.
The French Government has declined to accept the offered mediation of America in regard to Tonquin, The Lyttelton's cargo of frozen meat has arrived in excellent condition, and is realasing sfd per lb. Mr Redmond telegraphs home that the Australian convention is a great success, and that Mr Parnell's programme has been unanimously adopted by it. Representatives of the commercial and shipping interests are to interview Baron de Lesseps with reference to the Suez Canal accommodation.

.The Wellington-Manawatu Railway Company's debentures, which were pur-, chased by a syndicate some time ago, have now been placed upon the market and have all been taken up.
As the Lord Major's show passed through the streets to-day, the new Lord Mayor, Mr R. N. Fowler, M.P., was hissed by the populace, while Alderman Hadley, who had been rejected in the election, although the senior alderman who has not passed the chair, was loudly cheered. An Australian wool trophy car, and another of New Zealand mutton, formed part of the procession, and elicited loud cheers.
