OUR MINES.

DAKT.

The No. 2 reef was broken down yesr terday in the western drive at No. 3 level, seaward of the break which was met with in driving a few days ago. The manager is of opinion the hangingwall leader junctions with the main body just here, as the reef has opened out to a considerable size. It has been shot into for three feet, but the bangingwall has not been come upon yet.'"- The quartz carries more mineral than formerly,' and colors of gold were seea in breaking The face i« hc?v? under the Oi'ossewt afc No, % level,

or 30 feet from the winze being sank. This winze is down 14 feet; the reef maintains its size, 2\ feet, and shows colors of gold each breaking. There are on band 16 or 17 loads of crushing dirt, which should give a payable return when crushed. KURANUI HILL. The drive on the No. 9 reef from Belfast section, tunnel level, has made slow progress, owing to there being a number of stringers on the hangingwall. The manager has therefore changed the drive-to the footwall side, where better headway should be made. The reef still continues to show gold, and colors of the precious metal were seen pretty freely in a hangingwall stringer which is striking towards the main lode. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. The stope on the footwall branch of No. 2 reef, above No. 5 level, continues to produce a few pounds ot stone each breaking, 301 bs having been obtained from here during the past week. The northern drive on the cross reef has been at a standstill for a day or two, the men having been employed advancing the leading stope so as to improve the ventilation. The contractors are still sinking the winze in the sandstone, and there is no change to report from the south crosscut at the 640 ft level.
