V.R.C. SPRING MEETING.
Melbourne; Yesterday. The second day's raciog of the Vie* torian Racing Club's Spring Meeting took place to-day in the presence of avast assemblage of visitors. The number of persons on the ground is behoved to be the largest ever recorded. Sir Wm. Robinson, the Governor of South Australia, and Sir George Strahan, Governor of Tasmania, witnessed the proceedings. The weather was fine throughout the greater part of- the day, though somewhat sultry during the early part of the after noon" The new arrangements on the course were perfect. The following are the results of the various events :—=
Htjedle Race, 3 miles.—Ringwood 1, Lady Hampden 2, Agitation 3. Eleveu horses started, and it was a good race. Ringwood won by five lengths, a head only separating the second and third horses. Time, smins. 40secs. Kensington Stakes, 5 furlongs.— Broker 1, Falkirk 2, Antoinette 3. Eight ! started. Broker won by two lengths—a length between the second and third. Time, Imin 3|secs. Railway Stakes, one mile. — Ike 1, Tabletop 2, Capri 3. Ten horses started. After a good race Ike won by a length. Time lmiu 42f sees. Dabling Stakes, mile and a half.— Phantom 1, Stockdale 2, Spark 3. Only four started, but a gosd race resulted, Phantom winning by a iength and a half. Van Yean Stakes, one mile.—Olga 1, Chloris 2, Ironhand 3. Eighteen horses faced the starter. Olga, won easily in Imin 42^-secs.

Commotion ... 3 —The following 29 horses started:— Aic3e*de-Camp, Anglesey, A rchie; Bis-Bis, Calma, Claptrap, Commotion. Cunnamulla, Despot, Dirk Hatteraick, Dukedom, First Demon, First Water; Kathleen Mavourneen, Kingsdale, Kob>i-noor, Le Grande, Lesbia, Linda, Magnet, MartiniHenri, Nicholas, Pollio, Eecovery, Santa Claus, Sardius, Stockwell, Sweet William, and The Gem. ;
The betting at the post was —MartiniHenri, sto 1; Despot, 6to 1; Claptrap, 7 to 1; Nicholas, 10 to 1 ; First Demon, 10 to 1; Calma. 10 to 1; Aide-de~Camp, 12 to 1; DirkHatterick, 15 to 1; Pollio, 15 to 1 ; Commotion, 20 to 1; Stockwell, 25 to 1.
A good start was effected, Claptrap, Dirk Hatteraick, and LeGrande being the first to get away. Crossing the turn Dirk Hatteraick was in front, Martini<-Henri, Archie, and Claptrap following, and Despot, Cunnamulla, First Demon, Commotion, Dukedom, and Aide-de»Camp holding central positions. On passing the Grand Stand Claptrap again took the lead with Archie and Martini Henri close behind; Lesbia, Stockwell, Despot, Aide-de-Camp, and Nicholas following, and Dirk Hatteraick last. Rounding the turn Claptrap was still in.front and Archie next, Linda then shot to the front and led along the river side ; then came Archie, Clap'rap, and Martini Henri, with Aide de* Camp, Lesbia, and Dukedom well up, and Dirk Hatteraick still last. At the bridge Archie and Claptrap, again went forward, closely followed by Linda, Martini-Henri, Despot, and Dukedom, with Santa Claus, and Stock well in the centre of the field. At the back of the course Archie und Santa Claus, who had taken second place, were leading, with Dukedom third, and Aide de-Camp and Koh i-noor last. On entering the straight Martini-Henri took the lead, and Claptrap followed next; the rest of the field were in straggling order, First Water coming through them with a rush, and taking ah improved position. Martini-Henri, going well, drew away from the rest, and, increasing his lead, romped home an easy winner; First Water, coming up fast at the finish, landed two lengths away, followed in order by Commotion, Sardius, Magnet, First Demon, Aide-de-Camp, Eecovery, Archie, and Nicholas, —Koh-i-noor,. Bis bis, and Kingsdale bringiug up the rear. Time, 3mins. 30a-secs. ;
Martini-Henri was ridden by jockey Williamson, and he never whipped from start to finished.
