Summary of the Month.
NbTHiffG- of any serious' moment has taken place since the last mail left. As our mining columns will show, a few important fiodß have been made during the month, and business has been a little "brisker towards the end than it was in the beginning of October. Our political atmosphere haß been little disturbed lately. Some excitement took place not 'PUR ago anent the currency of a rumor which said that the Hon. Walter Johnston had resigned his portfolio in the Ministry, and his successor had been found in Captain Morris, a Government Whip, and representative of the district adjoining ours. The report was met with by much favor, but it was not confirmed. The Treasurer has since visited Auckland, it was believed chiefly with a view to selecting ah Auckland member for the vacant' office, and in confirmation of. this view, it .has been announced' that Mr E. Mitchelson, member for Marsden, a Government, supporter, has been offered and has accepted a seat in the Cabinet. The present Miniiter, the lfoa. W. W. Johnston retires in a fortnight. The Premier and. ex Premier leave here for Sydney shortly, to attend the Annexation Conference to be held there this month.
