The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1883.

The Ministerial bait has been at last swallowed, but we fear the fish which has taken it is not large enough to materially add to the strength of the Governmental Aquarium. Mr Mitchelson has been a consistent Government supporter since he was elected, but he has given no evidence of his intention to be a bright and shining light in the arena which he has entered; The limited area to which the Ministry was confined, when it felt itself compelled to recognise Auckland's claims to representation in the Ministry, has doubtless been the chief cause of the selection made ; but we cannot help expressing our surprise and regret that the telegram we previously published regarding the selection of Capt. Morris, member for Tauranga, as the occupier of the vacant seat in the Cabinet, was not fully confirmed. The appointment of those proposed at different times, who were members for Auckland city constituencies, would hare caused much dissatisfaction, and as the number left to take a representative of Auckland from, was, as has been shown, small, we must content ourselves, and hope that the interests of the'provincial district will be carefully watched and zealously guarded. The new Minister has yet to win his spurs as an administrator, but he is possessed of tact and shrewdness, no doubt will take care to win the esteem of those affected by his acts throughout the Colony generally, and by the province in which he lives, and where his interest should lie, particularly; We desire to congratulate Mr Mitchelson on his accession to office, after so short a life within the Parliamentary circle, and trust that bis works will fully warrant the very high confidence reposed in him.
