NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The No. 2 reef was broken down last night in the 10th stope west above ISTo. 5 level, at a point about 15 feet past the break, and 601bs of specimens were secured from it. The specimens being crushed at the Alburnia battery are shaping for about the average yield of the parcels previously obtained by this Com* pany. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. Eight tenders were received for sinking a shaft to a depth of 140 ft on this company's ground, Waiotahi Cre^k. The tendering was very close, the prices being as follows :—G. Leith, £2 9s 6d ; A. W. Burns, £2 9s Hd ; W. Rea, £2 12s 5d ; R. Harris, £2 12s 6d; T. Kneebone, £2 19a ; G. Comer, £2 19s 6d; J. Bailey, £2 19s 6d; S. Hancock, £310s. Mr Coutts has not accepted any of the tenders, but will send them to Auckland this evening for the directors to consider, and will probably get an answer stating who is the successful party on Monday, so as to let the men start work without delay. KURANUI HILL. The chief work in progress in this mine is the eastern drive on No. 9 reef at the tunnel level, Kelly's section. The face is now in 60 feet past the point where the j crosscut was put in from the drive on Kelly's reef. For that distance the reef has averaged about 18 inches in width, and/ has shown a few colors of gold each breaking. A leading stope is also being carried along this drive, and here also the reef shows gold. The manager is confident that he will be able to open up a large payable block here, as rich gold was got from the same reef in the early days at Kelly's surface level, and payable dirt was also tab-m from a level 60 feet below the tunnel level, though the block was not all stoped out. Stoping is still proceeding on the Junction leader from the winze, but the quartz here has shown no gold, though it is heavily mineralised. The small block opened up on either side of the winze on the All Nations leader at tunnel level has been stoped out, there being about 30 tons of quartz on hand from here. Work has been stopped at this point till the dirt is put through. Crushing will be started as soon as a supply of coal is received, which will probably be towards the end of next week. GOLD RETURNS. Adelaide.—Jury < and party have crushed 25 loads for the return of 2Oozs 9dwts gold.
