ADVICE FROM CETEWAYO.
Cetewayo seems to be one of those peculiar individuals who can manage other people's affairs better than his own. Writing to the Basutos, " What are you, Basutos," he asks in scorn," to,even imagine that you can fight against the English P You know that we Zulus are under the feet of the English, and we are your superiors. If you think that an army was sent against you, and that you beat it, and that you can do anything against th,e English, go on in your stupid and dreamy way of talking and y.ou will he sorry for it. If you persevere in your foolish way you will perish suddenly like a vessel on the sea that is suddenly filled with water and is no mora. What are you? If you got all the white people of this country, English, Boers, and also all the blaok people, to help you, what could you do against the English ? You could dp nothing j you are simply like a fly on the nose of a strong man ; 'you can be brushed away during the wink of the eye and be no more. Listen to me; stop this foolishness of yours and pay homage to the English nation. Listen to me. £ ajpa among the English people, s\nd know them. Do you think th,a,t even against the Zulus any Elijah soldiers were sent. No! It was as \f one man was set against the Eulna to pull them by the ear and advise them. If the English had sent an army no one would now be .living in Js.ulu.land. Th,ey only Bent a "Jew syen to advise the Zulus in fcindußss. If you now; despi«s tpy words, jump do^n.ths precipice, | swea? to you fcbat -you are acting as children ; there is ao hlaok race that can
do anything against the English. The black king and people that listen to the English and talk nicely to them are the only ones that will die from old age and save their country." This is a model of vigorous advice, and yet Getewayo has just been stiffening his back against the very power he appeared to fear so much.
