Dr Benson, Archbishop of Canterbury, is suffering from fistula, and an operation for i tsremoval is to be performed to-morrow.
Explosion in a Coal Mine
A serious explosion occurred to-day in a coal mine near Barnsley, Yorkshire. According to latest reports twenty miners have been killed and a number injured.
London, October 18.
The homeward mails, yia Naples, from Melbourne, September sth, per Orient steamship Potosi, were delivered here today. The Oriental Bank Corporation declares no dividend for the past half-year, but carries forward £30,000 to the reserve fund.
London, October 19
Three men, named Agricus (sic), Bracken, and Holmes, have been arrested at Halifax with dynamite in their possession. A supposed infernal machine containing; clockwork was found upon them. The prisoners are suspected of being P'enian emissaries.
Alexandria., October 18.
A further outbreak of cholera has occurred near this city. Great precautions are "being taken to present the spread of the disease.
Constantinople, October 18,
__ Official estimates to hand from the province of Anatolia, Asia Minor, give the number of lives lost as 2C3. The distress among the inhabitants is very great.

London, October 17.
General Maclrer, late of the Servian army, who for some time past has been actively engaged in organising a quasimilitary expedition to JNew Guinea, states that the subscriptions towards defraying the cost of it amount to £20,CG0, and that applications from 500 who are willing to join hare been received.
Mr Coiitts Trotter, in a. letter to the Times, warns the public of the danger in accepting the scheme of General Maclver for ,the settlement of New Guinea.
At the Fisheries Exhibition Messrs Ramsay and Macleay were awarded gold medals/ and Tenison Woods a diploma of honor. .
The Due De Feraan Nunez, Spanish Ambassador at Paris, who resigned, has withdrawn his resignation.
