CALEDONIAN.

Very little steam is now coming up around the No. 2 shaft, but the manager noes not intend to again disturb tbJe clay wall at No. 1 level for some time, so* as to allow the fire to go right out. T1.3 men formerly working in the Eed Qusen section have been employed for the past day or two getting the flat winze connecting Nos/ 1 and 2 levels in order for the conveyance of quartz to the latter, from which it can be hoisted to the surface. This work will be finished by to-morrow evening, and everything should be in full swing again, next week. The contractors for the second 100 ft. of the crosscut to intersect the Eed Queen leader at No. 2 level are making fair progress through good country, and when they have finished the face should be within 30 or 40ft. of the reef.

The mine continues to look pretty we:i all through, and the manager has now on hand about 80lbs of specimens.. Ten head of stampers nave been started at the Qaeen of Beauty mill, and cleaning up will take place at the end of next week. There will be about 4J loads of general dirt.
