The annual session of the Baptist Conference commenced here yesterday; seventeen ministers and delegates were present. The President,' the Rev. C. Carter, of Ponsonby, was in the chair. The report showed the net increase of members as 207, the total membership being 2230. New churches had been formed at Oamaru and Mosgiel. The Sunday Schools contain 2800 scholars. The Treasurer's report gave receipts as £102, and the expenditure £17, leaving a balance of £85 on hand. A request from the Christchurch Baptist Association, inviting the Union to take charge of the New Zealand Baptist, and make it the Governor for the whole denomination was agreed to.
