AUCKLAND.
This day. Mr A. Vowles, of the Thames, was second in Mr Pooley's competitions for tenors on Saturday night. Mr Sanders was first. The particulars of the accident to Mr Gillet senr., of Cambridge, are as follows : —He was endeavouring to shoot a bull, which had been ineffectually fired at by a man servant, and took a gun, putting in a double charge, the gun burst, and a piece of the iron struck Gilllet's eyeball, destroying the sight. ' A; man named Sanfcrd has dropped dead; at Newton. It is stated that two ladies are at present in Auckland who intend entering on a crusade, as the champions of " Womans rights." They are lying by at present till Mrs Potts' has finished with the Auckland public. ■'
